Program Hosts:  RWAB relies on its members to provide a light meal at each meeting.  If you are asked to co-host, please say yes!  Suggest focusing on finger food - cheese, crackers, fruit, and a dessert; please include gluten free options. Please provide 3 bottles of wine (2 white and 1 red) and a non-alcoholic beverage option.  RWAB will supply disposable plates, napkins cups and cutlery if needed.  Please save receipts and RWAB will reimburse you to cover costs.

Program:  Literacy in Red Wing Schools:  How Are We Doing?

AAUW will kick off the program year with a panel presentation about literacy in Red Wing area schools. Emily Seefeldt, literacy coordinator for Red Wing schools, and colleagues will review what’s happening in our schools and suggest how we might expand our partnership.

Program:  Mom and Dad’s Nipple Factory - a public film event to promote Breast Cancer Awareness 

Sheldon Theater

Volunteers needed to usher and staff even! Call Laurie Andrews to volunteer.

Join us for an unforgettable evening at the historic Sheldon Theater as we gather for the award-winning documentary, “Mom and Dad’s Nipple Factory.”  This heartwarming and hilarious true story celebrates love, resilience and creativity in the face of breast cancer.  Filmmaker Justin Johnson and his family will join us in person for a live Q&A.  Free community wide event; no tickets or registration required. Proceeds from a free will offering will benefit Pay It Forward, a local non-profit serving cancer patients and their families.  AAUW is grateful to th eWings Foundation for their financial support of this event!

Mary Anne Wise is an artist, author, co-founder of a Guatemalan non-profit called Multicolores and the co-founder of Cultural Cloth in Maiden Rock WI. Wise will describe her work in Guatemala helping marginalized women learn textile skills and achieve access to the global marketplace, and how she and her colleague formed Cultural Cloth, a company representing the works of primarily women artisans in nearly 40 countries around the globe.

Tickets:  $40 in advance; $45 at the door

Don’t miss this annual event where AAUW members gather for food, fun and to raise money to support AAUW.  Start thinking now about donating a silent auction or marketplace gift item.  Registration opens September 23; contact Jane Kono to register and pay.

Representatives from local government, law enforcement, and nonprofits serving the homeless will help us understand Red Wing’s homeless population and consider how we might support and advocate for them.

Program:  Hudson Bay Bound:  Two Women, One Dog, 2000 Miles to the Arctic

Hosts: Kris Richards, Ann Wildenborg

Celebrate Women’s History Month with two women who undertook a 2,000 mile canoeing trip from Minnesota to the Arctic Circle.  St. Olaf graduates, Natalie Warren and Ann Raiho, will describe their 2010 adventure and subsequent book at this special meeting honoring the strength and courage of women everywhere. (partner with Environmental Learning Center; Alida will call them)
